TIME CONVERSION SYSTEM - BRITISH AND IRISH TRACKS

Most enthusiasts have a good idea how times at nearby tracks compare with those at their local track, but doing so for every track and distance is a challenge even for the best informed. The "Drop-down" Table below is designed to answer this problem by providing a simple means of converting "going adjusted" times ("EST TIMES" at Irish tracks) to the equivalent time at another track, together with the related Rating. The conversion factors and Ratings are provided and updated by CHESTER/webster.

Whilst Ratings do give an indication of the relative merit of race times over broadly comparable distances converting race times for races over widely differing distances is, for obvious reasons, meaningless and so conversions are confined to "Race types" (i.e whether over two, four, six or eight bends). First select the "Race type" and then a track and race distance and then enter the time for conversion (with decimal point) before selecting the track and race distance for comparison. Clicking "Convert" will show the comparative time and the related Rating.

PLEASE NOTE:

(i) Even for the same “Race type” judgement has to be exercised when comparing race times at the extremes of the scale.

(ii) Conversions relate to the current track conditions at each trackk and caution should be exercised in making comparisons with times recorded many months ago.

(iii) Going adjusted times can be affected by factors such as the installation of new traps, changes to photo-timing, track works and changes to the basis of going allowances. The Comparative Times and Ratings are updated following such changes as soon as sufficient data are available.

Recent examples of such changes are noted below:-

OXFORD
Comparative times are based on races from 18th March 2023 when new Traps were installed for 450/943m races and from 20th April 2023 for 253/650m races. Prior to these dates going adjusted times were 18 spots slower. The Hand Timed races on the 17th March 2023 meeting should be ignored.

CENTRAL PARK
Comparative times and Ratings for Central Park were changed from 2nd July 2023 following major track works when distances were re-measured. Early indications are that net race times are little changed but the going at the track is now being returned as Normal when it would previously have been returned 15, 40, 55 and 80 spots Slow for two, four, six and eight bend races respectively. Comparative times will be changed if going adjusted times change as the track settles.

PLEASE REFER TO THE IMPORTANT NOTES EXPLAINING THE LIMITATIONS OF TIME CONVERSIONS AND RATINGS.
